UTMB March Rotation Day 2 (7 March 2016)
PA students Elizabeth Knipp and Beth Thompson climbed into an ambulance yesterday morning for the commute to work in the pueblo of La Esperanza.
I have driven by this community many times, usually on the way to Mexico to renew car papers when Mary and I lived in Guatemala. But I don’t think I have actually ever been into it – and in any case this entire area has been pretty much subsumed by the fast growing city of Quetzaltenango in the years since we lived there. But in fact, Elizabeth and Beth’s blog post from today describes it as a “neighborhood of Quetzaltenango.
Anyway, I just confirmed by chatting with E&E that this clinic is not as busy as some of past clinics. E&E saw 15 patients each today, and they are working with Guatemalan medical students from a nearby medical school, so there’s plenty of support with that. But they report that the people are very nice, and that they are learning a lot. So things are going well!
